CARLOS CAMPOS | FALL / WINTER 2012

Love In The Time of Cholera, a tale of romance by Gabriel García Márquez, has now been revealed as the inspiration behind Carlos Campos’ latest menswear collection for Fall / Winter 2012.

Effortlessly strong and beautifully tailored was the measure exuded by every piece on the runway. Slim legged trousers, sharp collared shirts, jackets and blazers were staples of the collections, the perfect foundation of any working wardrobe. Yet there was something poetic amongst the strength, present first in the effortless use of natural fibres such as wool, cotton, cashmere and silk, but more prominently featured in Campos’ use of colours. Red, caramel, wine and terracotta all featured prominently, displaying the passion and deep romance that inspired the collection from the start. The Honduran designers described them as the colours of “love, passion and blood”.

This was another Fall / Winter collection displaying the popular colour-blocking trend. Here it was present on the waistband of trousers, the patterned shirts and the heavy overcoats. Blues were married with camel tones and red with earth browns. There was also vibrancy in the single coloured suits, designed in rich hues of royal blue, terracotta and red.

Yet it was the attention to detail, such as the wine piping on shirts, which truly bought this beautiful collection together. The pieces were seamless in their design; there was a lucidity of the collection that allowed the strong separates to blend together as workable outfits.
