CHRISTOPHER KANE RESORT 2013
Christopher Kane took a pragmatic and refreshing approach to his Resort 2013 collection. He avoided the precious and ostentatious and crafted a truly ready-to wear and somewhat retrospective 2013 line.
After a stunning display of lace, feminine crepe dresses, tidy pleats and lots (and lots) of layering, it was clear that Christopher Kane had ventured well into his own back catalogue for this 2013 Resort collection.
Christopher Kane Resort 2013 is teeming with pastels, oversized paint stroke and rose prints, lace with hints of leather. There were skirts and dresses in every length a girl could ask for – mid-thigh, just above and just below the knee, midi and of course, maxi.
The tough biker jacket – a staple of every Christopher Kane collection to date – manifested itself in cracked, over printed leather. “I wanted it to be like one of those vintage jackets you see in a market,” Kane told Vogue. “They’re always great, but they never fit, do they?” Past collections were also echoed in the form of safety buckles and belt clips and familiar dress shapes with cinched-in waists and blooming shirts which harked back to Kane’s galaxy print collection a few Summers ago.
However, there was a solid presence of the new in the Christopher Kane Resort 2013 line. Long graceful, and almost Amazonian, dresses set off with panels of knife-edge pleats were a staple of the collection.
Elsewhere in the Christopher Kane Resort 2013 collection, baby blue lace was layered to create a stunning and very grown-up look. Kane’s baby pink J Brand jeans, appliquéd with white lace at the knee, which he teamed with a fluffy mohair sweater, may have been inspired by the addition of three-month-old niece Bonnie to the Kane family! Overall, the Christopher Kane 2013 line was about reclaiming a legacy – it’s easy to forget that he’s only been in the business for six years.
