FRANCESCA MAROTTA | SPRING / SUMMER 2012
Set in the scene of a beautiful hotel in Central London, Francesca Marotta showed her Spring / Summer 2012 collection.
Excitement bubbled as photographer’s lights created a wall of light. Set out as an exhibition, the models were grouped into threes and twos.
The colours in the collection varied on shades of blue and black. The blue hues were a spectrum from deep, midnight blue dresses to a denim blue colour used in the younger pieces of the collection.
At the forefront of the exhibition was a stunning gown. Corseted at the top, the gown was jet black. Made from a satin material and netting, Marotta showed her attention to intricate detail.
Starting with a simple corseted top, the dress was then layered, in tiers, with black netting.
The netting was densely packed and layered in a manner that made it highly voluminous and the center of everyone’s attention. Cut short at the front, the dress spanned over 8 feet across the floor.
Clearly created for attention and drama, close up it was obvious that this was the designers pride and joy.
Every stich was perfectly positioned, and the dress was placed in the center of the room- with photographers and admirers fawning around it.
The rest of the collection included frilled dresses and full-length gowns. Simply cut they counter balance the extreme glamour and eccentricity of the large black dress, placed in the center of the room.
