GAIL SORRONDA | FALL / WINTER 2010
Black Chalk is fashion designer Gail Sorronda‘s Fall / Winter collection, and it does exactly what it says on the tin. Black dresses, with chiffon, fur and pleated designs are great for winter, and are considered to be timeless pieces that will suit different women.
Described as ‘Old Hollywood’ the designs are a mixture of sheer layers in modern designs, in which you can imagine that of a Hollywood starlet queuing up to wear the designs.
After completing a degree in Fine Art at Queensland University of Technology, shortly after the designer launched Gail Sorronda in 2005 after winning the Mercedes-Benz start up award with her debut collection ‘Angel at My Table’. More recently the Sorronda was selected as a finalist in the 2010 L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival Designer award.
From then onwards the talents of the designer is clearly heading upwards, and the latest collection is beautiful, and should be featured highly in all fashion showcases around the globe. With little told about the designer, it seems the main priority and focus is on the design element alone, the use of images of Rome, and its exquisite buildings aids for inspiration, and you can find an element of Roman Holiday peering through.
It seems as though the designer has create a parallel world to that of what fashion is known for, inspiration isn’t taken to an extreme that you can’t wear the designs, but focuses on fashion that would be useful for everyone, and colours that can be easily matched with pieces that you may have in your wardrobe. But if it were me, i would want to showcase my one-off piece that is many would be enviable over.
