HELEN BULLOCK | FALL / WINTER 2012
Helen Bullock focussed on more organically designed clothing for Fall / Winter 2012, with an emphasis on hand printing. London-based Bullock graduated with an MA from Central Saint Martins, going on to work with John Galliano, Avsh Alom Gur and Ossie Clarke.
Inspired by soft-core porn, the designer stated: “My starting point was the ‘60s movie Candy, an absolutely hysterical film. In its last scene, there’s an amazing festival with enormous banners, bold shapes, and billowing fabrics. When I watched it, I was like, that’s what my collection needs to be.”
Loosely draped designs, quilting, florals and graphic lines gave way to an Eastern influence creating fluidity that juxtaposed the more risqué influences.
A new sense of experimentation with shape and colour saw a palette of burgundy, green, yellow and lavender mixed with asymmetrical lines and structural shapes.
Although opting for experimentation on the usual aesthetic, Helen Bullock ensured that the fun, playful context remained evident within each design.
