KATIE ROWLAND | FALL / WINTER 2012
New Jewellery Designer of the Year award winner, Katie Rowland, designs for ‘women who know what they want and know how to get it’.
After gaining a degree in Graphic Design from Kingston University, Rowland studied at Central St Martins where she began designing semi-precious jewellery. After graduating, the designer created a series of unisex collections combining handmade rings, necklaces and cuffs, entitled ‘Love and Faith’, ‘Point Break’ and ‘Heartbreaker’.
A provocative coalition of sophisticated and refined lavishness, Rowland’s designs combine gold and silver embraced by beautiful semi-precious stones. Exposing and refusing to veil the risqué, each design offers an amalgamation of typography, refined elegance and geometric graphics.
Drawing inspiration from historical female characters, the collections offer escapism and have an essence of the female form. This alongside the powerful emotions of lust, pleasure and heartbreak creates a collection suitable for any modern woman’s wardrobe.
The overall aesthetic of elegance mixed with edgy, raw and weaponistic properties, have secured Rowland successful collaborations including Agent Provocateur in 2011. This mixed with her ever-growing celebrity following (including Keri Hilson and Lady Gaga) has established the designer as a leader within the fine jewellery market, regularly featuring in the ‘Hot 100 List’.
