The British Fashion Council established the renowned New Generation (NEWGEN) in 1993 as a scheme to support emerging designers, showcasing and promoting new talent. Alumni include Alexander McQueen, Matthew Williamson, Christopher Kane and Giles Deacon. Designers receive £5000- £10,000 towards show costs, sponsored mentoring space, mentoring and use of the BFC Catwalk tent. They are also offered advice on sales and marketing and have access to business support. This can be offered to a designer for up to four seasons and the scheme has been backed by Topshop since 2001. The NEWGEN recipients of Spring/Summer 2010 have recently been announced. Catwalk sponsorship goes to House of Holland, Mark Fast, Mary Katrantzou, Meadham Kirchhoff and Peter Pilotto. Presentation sponsorship was awarded to Danielle Scutt, Louise Gray, LP.BG and Sykes. Exhibition sponsorship has also been given to Atalanta Weller, Cooperative Designs, Craig Lawrence, Danielle Scutt, Dominic Jones, Fred Butler, House of Holland, KTZ, Louise Gray, LP.BG, Mark Fast, Mary Katrantzou, Michael Lewis, Michael van der Ham, Peter Pilotto and Sykes.
