MOONSPOON SALOON | SPRING / SUMMER 2013
Moonspoon Saloon is a fashion-mad creative commune made up of artists from the worlds of photography, styling, art and design. Their abnormal world of inspiration consists of surreal baby dolls, miserable clowns, supernatural being and sweet wrapper colours… but the Moonspoon Saloon Spring / Summer 2013 collection was a lot more ready-to-wear than you would expect.
Moonspoon Salon designer Sara Sachs works simultaneously with performance art and fashion, her collections are founded in the surreal and eccentric characters of the show’s overall runway performance. Taking inspiration from what can only be the circus of the Spring / Summer 2013 line Moonspoon brought the away-from-the-body oversized silhouette of the previous season to a whole new – and not to mention trippy – level.
Velvet and candy coloured prints came together with clown-ruffle dresses and sweet wrapper style headpieces. Bondage-like loose fishnet jumpsuits were paired with humbug-esque black and white striped cuffs and purple pompom platforms. High-waisted leather shorts which zipped down the front were teamed up with a baby dolly-like cropped and hooded jacket, adorned with tight ruffles. Bright coloured platforms were covered in glitter and even a traditional fur coat came in a sweet candy stripe pink and orange. In amongst the outrageous was a clear nod to the sport luxe, with comfy oversized pieces leading the way for a more wearable look.
Sachs’ long time collaboration with painters Tal R, Evren Tekinoktay and choreographer Ryan Heffington for their performances in Los Angeles, London and New York has placed Moonspoon Saloon on the frontier of the art/fashion movement. Moonspoon is an endless fascination with the endless potential of clothing and human body. The new Spring / Summer 2013 collection ‘No Chocolate’ saw a return to exclusive materials and classic themes found in the early collections.
