THE SHOES OF ALEXANDER WANG SPRING / SUMMER 2011
In a short timespan of four years, Alexander Wang has become synonymous with an ‘off duty downtown cool’ look reminiscent in part to nineties grunge.
One of Wang’s strengths is producing focal accessories that further strengthen the mood of each collection. His accessories are seemingly the supporting cast that drive home the vision of the lead players.
For Alexander Wang’s Spring / Summer 2011 it was his line-up of footwear that served as the definitive supporting cast.
In colour palettes of taupe clay, terracotta, sand, ecru and white, the footwear cemented Alexander Wang’s departure from his signature black. Each design showed a notably softer, more demure and refined Wang, keeping with the overall collection.
The standout Wang shoe this season was an unusual open toe, lace up saddle ankle bootie with a distinctive big toe loop. This was accompanied by lace up ankle boots, ankle strap thong heels and a nineties inspired twist knot strappy cord heels respectively.
Despite a noticeably sleeker Alexander Wang collection, fans of the designer’s nineties aesthetic can be rest assured as the chunky heeled shoes fit perfectly into that decade.
