ZERO + MARIA CORNEJO | FALL / WINTER 2012

Zero + Maria Cornejo is a collection for the modern, intellectual woman; traditional in the form of silhouette, yet modern in it’s non-conformity.

After receiving her American citizenship, Maria Cornejo was left with thoughts of her own identity. For a designer who is already so accomplished it would seem strange to use this as a starting point, but the non-conformist designer never sticks to the norm. This thought process brought a new silhouette to the proceedings; signature draping was pulled back allowing a new exaggerated silhouette to take shape, alongside elegant lines of a simple body-conscious shape.

This new set of inspirations created a decidedly more colourful palette, encompassed into the stark black, white and grey tones of a Maria Cornejo collection. Deep cobalt blue and black prints were inspired by the refection of Cornejo’s son in a swimming pool, mixed with acid shades of neon yellow and green.

Thick felt, fur and leather added a sense of luxury to the all-American collection, and oversized knits ensured the collection still held the Maria Cornejo charm.
